Chestnut Knob Trail

| Located within South
Mountains State Park, the 2 mile Chestnut Knob Trail is rated
strenuous as it travels to Chestnut Knob Overlook. Chestnut Knob Trail
is available for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
South Mountains State Park is located 20.5 miles south of Morganton
North Carolina and may be reached from I-40, turn south onto NC 18
and travel 9 miles to NC 1913 (Sugarloaf Road) and turn right.
Continue along Sugarloaf Road to Old NC 18 and turn left. Travel 4 miles
along Old NC 18 and turn right onto Ward's Gap Road (SR 1901). South
Mountains State Park is located off SR 1901 on SR 1904. |
