South Mountains State Park, North Carolina State Parks

Located within Burke Counties North Carolina, the 16,664 acre South Mountains State Park features elevations up to 3,000' and offer a variety of natural features, facilities, and recreational opportunities including an 80' waterfall, 40+ miles of trails, hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping (including equestrian camping), and fishing.

To reach South Mountains State Park from I-40, turn south onto NC 18 and travel 9 miles to NC 1913 (Sugarloaf Road) and turn right.

Continue along Sugarloaf Road to Old NC 18 and turn left. Travel 4 miles along Old NC 18 and turn right onto Ward's Gap Road (SR 1901). South Mountains State Park is located off SR 1901 on SR 1904.
