River National Forest
Available for both hiking and horseback riding,
the 8.8 mile Midway Creek Trail is located mostly within the Hunter/Fryingpan
Wilderness and is one of the less used trails in the Aspen area. Beginning
to the left of the bulletin board and quickly crossing a wooden bridge,
Midway Creek Trail forks at the 0.5 mile mark. Travel left (right goes to Lost Man Trail
#1996) and begin the steep climb up 18 switchbacks. Near the end of
the switchbacks the trail enters Hunter/Fryingpan Wilderness. |
|
The trail veers to
the left and leads to a scenic overlook, then reaches a plateau &
winds through alpine meadows on the right side of Coleman Creek drainage.
After crossing to the other side Midway Pass is reached and the trail
follows Midway Creek. One half mile before the Hunter Creek Trail #2184
junction Midway Creek Trail crosses Hunter Creek. The trail goes on to
junction with Woody Creek Trail. To reach Midway Creek
Trail from Aspen Colorado, travel east along Highway 82 for 14 miles to
the parking lot across from Lost Man
Campground. The trail begins on the north (left) side of the Highway,
starting on Lost Man Trail. |
