White River National Forest

Offering good views of the Elk Mountain Range and the town of Aspen Colorado, Hunter Creek Trail #2184 & Hunter Valley Trail #1992 are heavily used by hikers, mountain bikers, joggers & their dogs for the first 3 miles.

From the lower access the trail travels down steps to a walkway which follows Hunter Creek, gradually ascending to the Benedict Bridge. Ascending steeply until reaching the Forest Service boundary and the Hunter Valley meadow, cross Hunter Creek at the 10th Mountain Bridge and travel right 1/8 mile to the Hunter Creek Trail sign on the left.

Again, the trail ascends steeply and joins with the 4WD road. Continue along the road toward Van Horn Park, staying right on the single track which continues for less than a mile overlooking Hunter Valley before again joining the 4WD road in Van Horn Park. Turn right onto the road and continue about 2 miles to the gate at Hunter/Fryingpan Wilderness boundary. At 7 miles the trail reaches it's intersection with Woody Creek Trail. Turn right to continue on Hunter Creek Trail.
