Mountains State Park, features 11 primitive family campsites which
are available on a first-come basis. Located 0.5 miles east of Jacob
Fork parking area, the campsites include a picnic table and fire
circle. Pit toilets and drinking water are located nearby.
One site is wheelchair accessible.
South Mountains State Park is located 20.5 miles south of Morganton
North Carolina and may be reached from I-40, turn south onto NC 18 and
travel 9 miles to NC 1913 (Sugarloaf Road) and turn right. |

Continue along Sugarloaf Road to Old NC 18 and turn left. Travel 4 miles
along Old NC 18 and turn right onto Ward's Gap Road (SR 1901). South
Mountains State Park is located off SR 1901 on SR 1904.
