Grant County West Virginia Hiking Trails

North Fork Mountain Trail

Traveling 23.8 miles of the 24 mile long North Fork Mountains, North Fork Mountain Trail (NFMT) follows the entire ridgeline. Following a mostly north/south directions, North Fork Mountain Trail offers spectacular views of the area.

Although offering some of the best views in West Virginia, North Fork Mountain Trail is also known as one of the driest areas in the state. Be sure to carry more water than you believe you will need.

North Fork Mountain may be accessed by car at three locations.

To reach the southern trailhead from Franklin West Virginia along US 33 for 9 miles.

The middle section of the trail may be reached via the FR 79 trailhead, 3.5 miles from FR 79's junction with CR 28/11.

the northern trailhead of North Fork Mountain Trail is reached 0.3 miles south along CR 28/11 from WV 28.
