Woody Creek Trail #1994
|
|
White
River National Forest
Traveling through wooded areas with plenty of places to camp,
the 9.7 mile Woody Creek Trail can be difficult for horseback
travel during the first 1.5 miles along Woody Creek through the rock scree
areas. Climbing steeply in sections as it travels to the Spruce Creek Trail
#1927 junction, Woody Creek Trail continues along the right fork up
the hill (Spruce Creek Trail is straight ahead). Continuing it's climb
Woody Creek Trail crosses the creek 4 times before reaching the ridge
between Woody Creek and Hunter Creek drainages. |
|
Following the
ridge, the trail descends to Deer Park before winding to the junction with
the Hunter Creek Trail #2184. A right
at this junction provides for a loop back to Lenado. To continue to Aspen,
follow Hunter Creek Trail. To reach Woody Creek Trail from
Aspen Colorado, travel west along Highway 82 for 7 miles to Woody Creek
Turnoff (about a mile past the Brush Creek Road turnoff to Snowmass
Village). Turn right following the road downhill. After crossing the
bridge bear left and continue 2 miles to the town of Woody Creek. Just
past the town take a sharp right onto Woody Creek Road #18 or FR 103.
Continue along this road 8.5 miles to the town of Lenado. Making a sharp
left turn about 0.75 mile from past Lenado, the road crosses Woody Creek.
Woody Creek Trailhead is located along the right side of the road, just
before the bridge. |
