US 221 Access Area Campgrounds

Located within New River State Park, the US 221 Access Area features 2 camping areas.

Fifteen primitive campsites are available which require a walk-in or canoe in. These 15 sites offer restroom facilities with hot water showers nearby.

Also available within the US 221 Access Area are 20 drive-in campsites with a dump station, restroom facilities with hot-water showers. Electricity is available for all 20 sites, 10 offer full hookups, and 2 campsites which are handicapped accessible.

To reach the US 221 Access Area of the New River State Park from I40 traveling west and I77 traveling north, go to US 421 N. Travel along US 421N thru Wilkesboro and turn right onto NC 16N toward Jefferson North Carolina. Continue along NC 16N to NC 88 and turn left. Travel along NC 88 for 4 miles and turn right onto US 221/16. Continue along US 221/16 north for 4.7 miles to Tom Fowler Road. Turn tight and continue to the stop sign (about 1.3 miles) and turn left onto US 221. Continue 2.6 miles to park entrance.
