Carter County Kentucky Hiking Trails

Carter Caves Cross Country Trail

Located within Carter Caves State Resort Park, the 7.5 mile Carter Caves Cross Country Trail is known as the 4-C's Trail and begins at the Welcome Center. Traveling into the park's backcountry, 4-C's Trail passes through Shangra La Arch, crossing Smoky Creek, and at the 5 mile mark, Johnson Homeplace Backcountry Primitive Campground. After leaving the campground Carter Caves Cross Country Trail crosses a suspension bridge before joining 3 Bridges Trail for the return to the Welcome Center. Considered difficult, 4-C's Trail is marked with orange blazes.
To reach Carter Caves State Resort Park from I-64 east, exit 161 (Olive Hill). Turn left onto US 60 east and travel about 2 miles to KY 182 north. Turn left onto KY 182 and continue to the park entrance, about 3 miles.
