Cacapon State Park

Length:   miles   Rating:

Trail climbs from 900 feet at main park road near boat dock entrance to 2200 feet at the top of Cacapon Mountain.  This trail is part of the Ziler Trail known to have traversed this section and used extensively in pioneer days.  Extending over the mountain, it connected the Sleepy Creek Valley with other communities like Great Cacapon, Largent, and Paw Paw.  Persons using this steep rugged trail may return by retracing their steps (total distance 5 miles) or by following the Blue marked trail (total distance 7 miles).  Average walking times for either option is 4 to 5 hours.  An alternate longer hike for a total of at least 10 miles can be made at the intersection of the Ziler Trail with the fire trail on top of the mountain.  Turn left (south) and follow the park roads back to your starting point.
