Located 15 miles northwest of Hartford Connecticut, the 1,000 acre American Legion State Forest along with People's Forest (connected) offers a large variety of outdoor recreational opportunities including fishing, hiking, biking, camping, cross-country skiing, hunting, snowmobiling, canoeing & kayaking and picnicking.

To reach American Legion State Forest from Winstead, travel east along Route 44 to Route 318 east to Pleasant Valley, or Route 44 west from New Hartford to Route 181 north to Pleasant Valley.
