Available for hiking and horseback
riding, the 2.5 mile Mica Basin Trail leaves Gilpin Lake Trail
#1161 and ascends steeply for the first 1.5 miles from the Gilpin
Creek canyon into the Mica Basin. After entering the basin Mica Basin
Trail crosses Mica Creek then follows it to Mica Lake which is surronded
by 12,059' Big Agnes Mountain, Little Agnes Mountain and the Sawtooth
Range.

To reach Gilpin Creek Trail travel 2 miles west of Steamboat
Springs Colorado along Highway 40 and turn right onto Elk River Road (CR
129). Continue along CR 129 for 18 miles to Seedhouse Road (FR 400/CR 64)
and turn right. Continue for 10 miles to the end at the Slavonia trailhead
parking. Hike along Gilpin Lake Trail for 1.5 miles to Mica
Basin Trail.
