Available to both hikers and bikers, the 7 mile (To Woody
Creek) Rio Grande Trail is a very popular trail which follows Roaring Fork
River. The first 2 miles are paved and follow the river. Crossing under
Cemetery Lane, Rio Grande Trail becomes unpaved as it travels along the
other side of Slaughterhouse Bridge along an old railroad bed. Crossing
McLain Flats Road the trail continues on to Woody Creek. From Woody Creek
the trail is paved al the way to Basalt. To access the
paved portion, travel along Main Street in Aspen Colorado and turn north
onto Mill Street, then left onto Puppy Smith Road (4 way stop). The trail
entrance is across from the Post Office. |
