Pitkin County Colorado Hiking Trails
Grizzly Lake Trail #1990
|
|
White
River National Forest
Offering magnificent views of the surrounding peaks, the
3.6 mile Grizzly Lake Trail travels through forest, meadows and rocky
crags to a high mountain lake. Following Grizzly Creek the trail ascends
steeply for the first 0.5 mile through a series of switchbacks. The next
1.5 miles are a gradual ascent through alternating pine & fir forest
and wildflower meadows. A stream crossing is reached beyond the last
meadow, after which the trail ascends 1.5 miles along a steep rock shelf
then winds through alpine tundra toward a hillside traverse which ends on
a knoll hiding Grizzly Lake just a head. |
|
| To reach Grizzly Lake Trail from
Aspen Colorado, travel east along Highway 82 for 11 miles to Lincoln Creek
Road and turn right. Continue along Lincoln Creek Road for 6.1 miles to
Grizzly Reservoir. The trailhead is located on the left just after the
reservoir, but just before Portal
Campground. |
