Pike
& San Isabel National Forest, Cimarron & Comanche National
Grasslands, National Forest in Colorado
Available for Hiking & Horseback riding, the 9.4 mile Goose Creek Trail
provides access into the southeast portion of the Lost Creek Wilderness. Goose
Creek trail winds north and eventually ends in Wigwam Park at a junction with
Wigwam Trail. From the trailhead near the parking area follow the trail down to
a wooden footbridge across Hankins Creek after which you will reach a trail
junction. Goose Creek Trail heads east (right) to Goose Creek (Hankins Pass
Trails travel west/left) and follows the creek upstream, crossing over on a
large metal footbridge.

Goose Creek Trail soon begins to gain elevation as it
rises up away from the creek. After reaching a sign which marks the turn off to
the historic buildings and shaft house remnants, Goose Creek Trail begins to
gain elevation rapidly before dropping down into Watkins Gulch. The trail then
travels up again in a northwesterly direction (general), reaching McCurdy Park
Trail junction at a highpoint overlooking the valley. Goose Creek Trail bears
right (north) up a saddle east of a granite tower with a distinctive leaning
pinnacle before dropping down into Wigwam Park to end at it's intersection with
Wigwam Trail.
Primitive Camping and fishing are available along Goose Creek Trail,
however because of popularity, legal campsites (at least 100' from water &
trail) are scarce.
Goose Creek Trailhead may be reached via FR 211 at the south end from
Tarryall Road, near Lake George or from the north end near Deckers.
