Rico-Silverton Trail #507

Animas River Drainage

Located within the Columbine Ranger District of San Juan National Forest, the 8.0 mile Rico-Silverton Trail is rated more difficult and receives heavy use. Rico-Silverton Trail begins and at an elevation of 10,800' (South Park, Mineral Creek) and an ending elevation of 11,200' (Bolam Pass).

Rico-Silverton Trail ascends 2 high mountain and offers excellent views. Grizzly Peak, Rolling Mountain, and Graysill Mountain are all accessible from the Rico-Silverton Trail.

To access the Rico-Silverton Trail travel 2 mils north of Silverton along US 550 and turn onto South Mineral Road (FDR 585). Continue along this dirt road past the campground (about 2 miles) to the Bandora Mine. Turn left slightly before the mine and follow the road across the creek.

The Rico-Silverton Trail may also be accessed by traveling along US 550 for 30 miles north of Durango to FDR 578 and go 16 miles on this road to the trailhead.
