There are no groomed cross country ski trails or snowshoe trails within Curecanti
National Recreation Area, however several areas offer good cross
country skiing or snowshoeing for those wishing to enjoy the challenge of
breaking trail.
Red Creek begins 4 miles west of the Elk Creek Visitors Center on U.S.
50. Ski or showshoe this road which leads to Red Creek Campground or
continue toward the West Elk Wilderness Area of the Gunnison National
Forest for about 6 miles.
Red Creek is suitable for intermediate and advanced abilities.
