Located within the Boulder Ranger District, Kinston Peak Road are
rated Moderate and crosses an above-treeline bench at 12,000'
elevation which offers spectacular views of the nearby James Peak
Wilderness Area and more distant views toward Longs Peak (north) and
Mount Evans (south). |

Much of the distance is on the high-clearance 2WD Apex Road. About 8
miles is true 4WD, with some steep, rocky sections near the top. Apex
and Kingston Peak Roads connect to many more 4WD roads to the south
within Clear Creek Ranger District.
To reach Apex & Kingston Peak Roads
From the north travel along CO 119 south of Nederland Colorado to CR
16 (East Portal Road) west to CR 4N (Mammoth Gulch Road) south, then 1
mile past NFSR 176 (Mammoth Gulch).
From the south travel along CR 4 (Apex Road) from CO 119 near Clear
Falls, 2 miles north of Blackhawk. Kingston Peak Road also connects to
Alice on the Fall River Road, CR 275.
