The 4.0 mile Austin Gap Loop Trail is a great way to access the Cumberland Mountain Trail. There are scenic views along trail. Austin Gap Loop Trail is a historic trail that provided access into Kentucky through Austin Gap.

Trailhead is beside State Route 630, and goes northwest. About 0.75 mile up the trail, the loop begins. You can go in either direction.

Austin Gap Loop Trail travels around and intersects the Cumberland Mountain Trail on top of mountain, then comes back down same section as at Trail Beginning.

From Pound, go north on US 23 for about 1 mile. At State Route 630, turn right, into Almira. Follow 630 for about 3 miles until you come to the Austin Cemetery on the right. The trailhead is on the left, and indicated by blue trail blazes. Park along the road.
