Rabun County Georgia Hiking Trails

Willis Knob Trail

Length: 15.0 miles
Rating: Moderate

Willis Knob Trail provides some of the most scenic horseback riding opportunities in the Southeast. It features both rugged mountain terrain and views of the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River.

Winding across deeply dissected ridges, the trails descend into the beautiful Chattooga Wild & Scenic River drainage. The Willis Knob Trail is designed as one large 15 miles continuous loop.

The trail crosses several gravel roads, allowing you to plan trips from one half mile to the full 15 miles. Important: High water levels make for difficult crossings at Adline Branch, Moss Mill, and Big Island.

All are negotiable for experienced riders at normal water levels, but Adline Branch is the preferred crossing. Be aware of the possibility of heavy rain by checking weather forecasts -- otherwise you might be trapped on the opposite side of the river from your vehicle.

Directions:

Go east on Warwoman Road from Clayton Georgia for 11.6 miles. Turn right on Forest Service Road 157 (Goldmine Road). Proceed 0.2 mile to parking area on left.
