Rating: Easy
The
trail begins at the Devil's Den Nature Loop sign adjacent to the
amphitheater. Follow the white blazed trail to the left. Cross a wooden
bridge as you pass beautiful stands of poplar and oak. Cross another
wooden bridge and hike next to some magnificent boulders. The trail ends
where it began.

Directions:
From
Burnsville go east on US 19E for about 4.3 miles to an access road to NC
80. Turn right, go for .6 mile and turn right again on NC 80. Follow this
road for 11.6 miles to the Mt. Mitchell Golf Course and turn right on
forest Service Road 472. (a sign is at this turn for Black Mtn Campground)
This road changes to gravel. After it changes to gravel, arrive at an
intersection where you can go straight or take a right. Take a right on
this road which keeps you on FR 472. Follow this road to a parking lot on
the left that has a bulletin board with trail maps and info. Park here.
Walk across the bridge into Black Mountain Campground and past the
campground building that is straight ahead. Bear right around the upper
campground loop to the first bathroom on the right. The tralihead is
visible from this point.
