Devil's
Creek Trail

Follow Bear woods
Road for about a mile. After .75 mile, the road splits. Follow the road to
the right. The road leads to a gated open field. Walk around this gate on
the right and stay close to the woods on the right. About 50 feet inside
the gate, the trail cuts into the woods on the right. A carsonite sign
here marks Devil's Creek Trail, and white blazes begin. Follow this fairly
level trail that swings in and out around the flanks of Flattop Mountain.

This trail provides access to the community of Lost Cove, developed in the
1900's for the establishment of the CC Railroad. Once the railroad was
completed, most settlers remained to remove timber from the surrounding
area.
The community had a school, church, grist mill, and several homes.
After the timber was removed, many inhabitants remained as farmers and
small timber operators. The only access into this community was by foot or
rail. The town is currently deserted, but several buildings remain. It
should be noted that these buildings are not along the trail, but they can
be accessed from this trail. No camp sites exist along this trail.
