Palmer Creek Trail

Length: 3.3 miles
Rating: Strenuous

This strenuous creek headwater trail gains nearly 1,800 feet in its 3.3 miles from Cataloochee Valley to Balsam Mountain Road. The trail is heavily used by horses.

The trail follows Palmer Creek for about half its length and then climbs more steeply along a narrow side ridge to Pin Oak Gap on Balsam Mountain.

Directions:

From Blue Ridge Parkway turn onto Heintooga Road and go 8.3 miles to the Balsam Mtn. Campground. From there it is a0.6 miles to the Heintooga Picnic Area.
