Madison County North Carolina Hiking Trails

Pounding Mill Trail

Length: 6.3 miles
Rating: Strenuous

From the trail's upper terminus at Camp Creek Bald, a panoramic view of mountain peaks in Tennessee and North Carolina can be seen.

The easiest route is to begin at Camp Creek Bald and hike to State Road 208. From the upper end, the trail crosses the Appalachian Trail. From here the trail mostly follows an old road bed. It first passes the upper terminus of the Hickory Fork Trail. Approximately one mile further, the trail leaves the old road and descends through the forest where it follows Pounding Mill Branch to the lower terminus at SR 208.

Directions:

Go north on SR 208 across the Tennessee state line. Turn at the first paved road on the right. After a short distance the road turns to gravel, then back to pavement, then to gravel again. Follow this road to the top of Camp Creek Bald. Park at the end of the second paved section and walk up the gravel road past the fire tower to the trailhead.
