Available for hiking, and horseback riding,
South Fork Trail is located within Weminuche Wilderness. Two sets of
long switchbacks along some steep ridges are found in the first 2
miles of steady elevation climb of South Fork Trail. After the
switchbacks, the trail travels into small open meadows which are
available for camping. The upper 2 miles are difficult after
rain storms.

To reach South Fork Trail from South Fork Colorado, travel west along US
160 for 10.5 miles and turn right onto Big Meadows Road. Follow Big
Meadows Road for 1.5 miles to Big Meadows Reservoir. Take Archuleta
Trail #839 until it intersects with South Fork Trail and turn left.
