Available for hiking, horseback riding, ATV's
& motorcycles, Silver Mountain Trail follows the South Fork of
Cat Creek, gaining elevation gradually. Leaving the South Fork of Cat
Creek Drainage, Silver Mountain Trail crosses over & follows
Ranger Creek for a short way before becoming a little steeper as it
climbs to the ridge top & up to Silver Mountain. Silver Mountain
Trail follows the ridge around Silver Mountain toward Sheep Mountain.
After passing Sheep Mountain, Silver Mountain Trail drops down to
Blowout Pass.

Several suitable campsites are available along
Silver Mountain Trail.
To reach Silver Mountain Trail from Monte Vista, travel
south along Gunbarrel Road State Road 15 for 12 miles to FR 250. Travel
west along FR 250 for 8 miles to FR 271 (Cat Creek Road) and turn west.
Continue west along Cat Creek Road about 5.5 miles to the trail head.
OR
From Monte Vista travel south along Gunbarrel Road for
12 miles to FR 250, west along FR 250 for 21 miles to Spring Creek Road
#329, north along Spring Creek Road for 4 miles to the Blowout Pass
trailhead.
