Available to hikers, bikers, horseback riders & cross country skiing, the
5.5 mile Burning Bear Trail (#601) follows Burning Bear Creek west from Geneva
Creek, over a ridge and down Lamping Creek on the west side of the ridge.
Burning Bear Trail offers 2 trailheads:
The east end of Burning Bear Trail is about 0.2 miles west of the parking
area for the Abyss Trailhead. The Abyss trailhead provides access for the Abyss
Trail and the Burning Bear Trail.

From Denver, travel 40 miles southwest along US 285 to Grant Colorado and
turn north (right) onto CR 62 (toward Guanella Pass) and travel 5.5 miles to the
trailhead. The trailhead is on the east (right) side of the road and is located
just south of Burning Bear Campground.
The west end of Burning Bear Trail is located in Hall Valley on CR 60, about
2 miles up valley from US 285.
Burning Bear Trail offers several difficulty levels:
Geneva to switchbacks - Easiest
Switchbacks to summit - Difficult
Summit to Lamping Creek - Most Difficult
Lamping Creek to trailhead - More Difficult
