Animas River Drainage
Located within the Columbine Ranger District of
San Juan National Forest, the 21.3 mile Sawtooth Mountain to Knife
Edge section of the Continental Divide Trail is rated Moderate to
Difficult, and receives Moderate to Light use. This section of the
Continental Divide Trail begins at an elevation of 11,800' (0.5 miles
south of Trout Lake) and an ending elevation of 12,400' (Immediately south
of Sawtooth Mountain). The Sawtooth Mountain to Knife Edge section of the
trail travels along the famous cliffs of Knife Edge.
