Located within Mesa Verde National
Park, the 7.8 mile (round trip) Prater Ridge Trail begins on the west
side of Morefield Campground and ascends Prater Ridge where it follows a
loop around the top of the ridge before returning along the same route. A
cut-off trail is available which shortens the trail.
Mesa Verde National Park Headquarters is about a 1 hour drive east of
Cortez Colorado along Highway 160, and about a 1.5 hour drive west from
Durango Colorado along Highway 160.
