Located in the Twin Lakes Area of the Leadville Ranger District, the
8.5 mile Lost Canyon (FR 398) begins on Highway 24 just south of the
Granite store and ends at a wide alpine meadow to the northeast of Quail
Mountain near an on going privately owned mining operation.
The first few miles of Lost Canyon Road is accessible by passenger
vehicle, beyond which is rough and rocky. High clearance 4WD is
recommended.

| Lost Canyon winds through lodgepole
stands, passes an abandoned placer operation on Lost Canyon Creek and
travel above the timberline. The broad alpine meadow offers views of Clear
Creek Valley to the south, Boswell Gulch to the west and Lake Creek Valley
to the north.

Twin Lakes are located about 20 miles south of Leadville along Highway 82. |
