Available to Hikers & Horseback riders, the 14,336' La Plata Peak may be
accessed from Leadville by traveling south along US24 to Highway 82, fourteen
miles to the turn off marked "South Fork Lake Creek". Parking is
provided along the south side of Highway 82. Walk about 0.3 mile along the road
to the signed beginning of the La Plata Gulch Trail.

The trail crosses private
land, heading east to a steel truss bridge over the South Fork. Follow the trail
across La Plata gulch for 2 miles to the treeline. One route is defined from
treeline to the summit by rock cairns.
