Pike
& San Isabel National Forest, Cimarron & Comanche National
Grasslands, National Forest in Colorado
Available for Hiking & Horseback riding, the 8.0 mile Hunts Lake Trail
begins at an elevation of 9,000' and reaches it's high point (11,500') at the
lake. Hunts Lake is in a tight basin glacial cirque, with trees along the lake
shore.
To reach Hunts Lake Trail, travel 3 miles east from Salida Colorado along
Highway 50 and turn right (south) onto CR 101.

The dirt CR 101 becomes somewhat
rugged after the first 2 miles. Continue along CR 101 until you reach the
Rainbow Trail (end of road). There is only parking for 3 large vehicles at the
Rainbow Trail. From this point, travel east along Rainbow Trail for 5 miles.
Just 25' before you reach a switchback (Rainbow Trail continues to the
southwest) you will see a road leading to private property on the downhill side.
Just opposite of this road is the Hunts Lake Trail.
