Grasslands, National Forest in Colorado
Located in the Clear Creek Area of the Leadville Ranger District, the
3.1 mile Huron Peak Trail offers an elevation gain of 3,700'.
Huron Peak Trail begins along the South Fork of Clear Creek Road about
2.5 miles from Winfield and past the old Banker Mine. Travel south of the
metal gate about 150 yards to a small meadow and look for a sign for
Huron. Travel east along the trail as it goes up the first small hill and
makes a turn to the right.

|
As you now travel south, Huron
Peak Trail will reach a small creek. Climb east up the very steep trail to
the treeline and a large grassy bench. Continue up and across the bench to
the prominent saddle on the ridge between Browns Peak and Huron Peak.
Travel south along the ridge to Huron's summit. Remain on the ridge for
the descent and regain the trail for the return trip.
To reach Huron Peak Trail from Leadville Colorado, travel south along
US 24 for about 22 miles to Chaffee County Road 390. Travel west 12 miles
along CR 390 to the ghost town of Winfield. Turn south onto FR 390.2B
which is very rough and recommended for high clearance vehicles only.
