Following a stream with small waterfalls, the 11 mile Browns Creek
Trail is a popular trail for hikers & horseback riding groups. The
lower portion of Browns Creek Trail begins in primarily a Ponderosa pine
environment and gradually changes to lodgepole and spruce forest. The higher
elevations offers meadows with alpine wildflowers (mid summer). Along the way to
Browns Lake, views of Mt. Antero (14,269), and the Arkansas Hills to the east.

| To reach Browns Creek Trail from Highway 285 between Poncha Springs and Buena
Vista, travel west along CR 270 for 1.5 miles to a 4-way intersection. Continue
traveling west along CR 272 for 2 miles. From the sign which indicates the
entrance to the National Forest travel 2 miles to an intersection and turn left.
Travel south for 1.5 miles to the Brown Creek Trailhead.
