We have at least one event every weekend
and average two or three events a week (mostly on the weekend). There is
no membership fee; we just pay for costs we incur, such as gas, parking
fees, etc. Joining ASH is simple - just show up! To go on an activity,
just contact the event leader listed in the weekly email or this site to
RSVP, if requested. Usually, you can just show up and go. To get on the
ASH email list, simply send a request to Charles Dean at

Carolina Berg Wanderers
The Berg Wanderers are a Charlotte-area club formed in
the 70's by people wanting to make friends with others who enjoy outdoor
activities. 'Berg Wanderer' means mountain wanderer in German, which is
how the club was named by its founders. The Bergs are very active in many
outdoor activities throughout the year. We are a very informal, friendly
group of outdoors enthusiasts who meet monthly to plan outdoor trips to a
variety places. Our membership is as varied as our outings, which include
families, married couples and singles of all ages.
Outings regularly include hiking, backpacking, canoe/kayak paddling (flat
& whitewater), biking (street & mountain), skiing (cross-country &
downhill), camping, and whitewater rafting. Some of the unique trips
include skydiving, rock hopping, orienteering, and moonlit trips. Any and
all types of trips are possible. Sometimes there are even indoor
activities such as going to a movie, or touring a local brewery.
And we might mention, that we are pretty good eaters. Some have said we do
all these outdoor activities to keep off all the pounds we eat!
Cherokee Hiking Club
We are a hiking club centered in the Cleveland area of Southeast
Tennessee. Most of our hikes are into the Cherokee National Forest, though
we also take hikes into the Nantahala National Forest, the Smokies, and
onto the Cumberland Plateau. Our hikes average 5-12 miles in distance with
difficulty levels of easy to difficult. Most hikes occur on weekends.
Charlotte Lady Hikers
Open to lady hikers of any age, but we are mostly middle aged women.
We usually drive up to 2 or 3 hrs from Charlotte, and hike around 5 to 7
miles per trip. We are day hikers, and schedule two Saturday hikes per
month, plus weekly Thursday hikes. Our group provides opportunities to
enjoy the comraderie of friends and the natural beauty all around us. This
is the third year since our hiking group was formed, and we have visited
many state parks in North and South Carolina, and also greenways, nature
preserves, and national forests in these two states and Virginia. We have
formed and enjoyed many new friendships through our hiking group, and also
enjoyed the fitness challenges of the trails. Each trip is an adventure
from planning the hike to actually walking it, and we look forward to many
more exciting adventures.

Georgia Adventurers Group
Between sunsets and sunrises, Nature is a very beautiful place to
explore. Every creature has its habitat, every wind that blows through
the forest has its own path, and every stream delicately follows its
own stream bed. It’s all just like you and I, we all have to find our
own niche in the outdoors.
There are 100’s of trails within the vicinity of the state of Georgia.
And many years before Georgia had roads, it was laced with Indian
paths. There is so much heritage in everything you explore in Georgia,
the lakes, rivers, mountains, cliffs, all have a story to tell.
When the Georgia Adventurers Group take to the trails, we’re on a
mission to explore. We’re not just a club of “trail runners" or
“exercisers," we’re out there to learn too! Want to KNOW what that
flower is? that bug? that tree? that rock? that bird? Bring a Guide
Book and learn with us Go
