Mount Rogers National Recreation Area

There are four clusters available by reservation for group camping.   All contain tent pads, picnic tables and fire rings.  These clusters are primitive and you have to walk in to the clusters from the parking area.  There are no showers or flush toilets.  There are outdoor toilets available.  

CLUSTERS #1, #2 and #3 each contain 4 tent pads (each pad 14’x14’).  A maximum of 24 people are allowed in each cluster and up to 8 vehicles per cluster are allowed in the designated parking area.  

CLUSTER #4 contains 5 tent pads.   A maximum of 30 people are allowed and 10 vehicles in the parking area for this cluster.

Season of Use for Tent Group Sites:   April 1 – November 30 (subject to change)

Directions:

Beartree is in Washington County, Virginia, about 7 miles east of Damascus.  From I-81 southbound take exit 29 at Glade Spring, turn left at bottom of ramp and go about ¼ mile to stop sign.  Turn right onto US 11, then immediately left onto SR 91.  Follow SR 91 for 13 miles to Damascus.  Go east on US 58 for about 7 miles to Beartree entrance on left (paved FS 837).    

From I-81 northbound take exit 19 at Abingdon onto US 58 east.  Go about 12 miles to Damascus.  Continue on US 58 east another 7 miles to the campground entrance on the left.

 From the entrance off US 58 to the entrance station is approximately 1 mile.  The family campground loops are approximately 3 miles from the entrance station, and the group camping loops are approximately ½ mile from the entrance station.
